  • Spirulina is an ancient class of blue green spiral algae known to have existed since the appearance of life on Earth. Spirulina is known as a protein powerhouse because it has the highest concentration of protein per gram compared to any food on the planet and it has a complete amino acid profile. Compared to beef, it has 3 times the amount of protein per gram and 4 times the absorbability (making that 12x more protein than beef).

For athletes, Spirulina is great to take after training to improve recovery. The high chlorophyll combined with the high quality protein content of Spirulina helps alkalize the body, helping the body recover faster from exercise.

In addition to this, Spirulina is high in GLA (gamma-linolenic acid). GLA is important for growth and development and it is found most abundantly in mother’s milk. Next to mother’s milk, Spirulina is the next highest food source of GLA. Spirulina is recommended for people who were never breastfed as it fosters hormonal and mental development.

A single teaspoon of spirulina has more antioxidants than 5 servings of fruits and vegetables. It has 60x more cancer fighting phytonutrients than spinach and 31x more than blueberries and is also known as the highest food source of beta carotene.

  • May be mixed with smoothies (start with 1/8 to 1/4 tsp), healthy desserts, and other healthy meals. Don’t let first impressions (i.e. fishy smell) detract you, try to taste it and you will find that it tastes just like nori (seaweed). Ease your way into spirulina and start with 1/8 to 1/4 tsp. Spirulina has detoxing / cleansing benefits, so too much too soon would send you to the bathroom (although effortlessly and painlessly).

For therapeutic dose or for athletes, you may take 1 tbsp a day (after easing your way in).
